Meet the Candidates – Nicole Sherbondy O’Rear

I’m super excited to announce that I am running for a seat on the Southmoreland School Board.

This past year has been tough for ALL of us! Decisions by the board haven’t always been in everyone’s favor, but the board hasn’t EVER had to make these kind decisions either!

My focus for wanting to be a candidate derived from wanting our children back in school! OUR children have literally lost a complete year of education, at least a quality one! OUR children and their education need to be given a better opportunity and more priority! OUR CHILDREN deserve OUR thanks and gratitude! They are the true HEROES of this District!

My vision for wanting to be elected has gone beyond the scope of being, what most would call, a ‘decision maker’. Our District has a lot of policies, and some are just that, policies. One policy in particular, is “Educational Equity”. Which is basically, a provision to provide adequate, fair and an unbiased education to ALL students throughout the school’s. I do believe this policy is implemented to its standard, but not to its full potential. I believe if we, the district, are going to really make an impact with Educational Equity, we must go beyond the scope of just being ‘standard practice’.

If elected, I plan to bring some new ideas that will promote MORE INCLUSION through a better knowledge and comprehension of diversity!

Meet the Candidates – Brian W. Shipley

After many recent discussions and many discussions over the years, with friends, family, colleagues, teachers, and many community members, I have decided to run for a seat on the Southmoreland School Board in the upcoming Primary election May 18. I will be on the ballot for both the Republican and Democrat parties.

Those of you that know me know that I have been teaching and coaching (baseball and basketball) for over 20 plus years. These years have primarily been spent in the Southmoreland and Connellsville School Districts. I have Master’s Degrees in Public Policy/Planning and in Administration/Supervision with a Principal’s Certification.

With my diverse background, experience and knowledge, I am hoping to bring some different views and informed decision-making to the District. I have been a lifelong resident of the Southmoreland School District for 40 plus years, and have 2 children attending schools in the Southmoreland School District.

I will be dedicated to educating our students, and supporting our staff, our parents and our community. I am humbly asking for your support for this endeavor.

Meet the Candidates – Duane Frund

Hello everyone!

I am running for a seat on the school board at Southmoreland. I’m a 2004 graduate of Southmoreland. I am an Elementary Principal in the Albert Gallatin Area School District. I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and have 13 years experience in education. For 10 years I was in the classroom as a teacher, also serving as the union rep, and building level technology coordinator. I served as a School Improvement Specialist and eventually dean of students, and currently am a principal. I have two children in the district currently, but I will have five children in the district in five years. I am involved in coaching youth football and wrestling. I am a member of the Red and Black Booster Club, volunteering time and energy to directly benefit student athletes at Southmoreland.

I have lived other places and experienced life outside of our small town, and I ultimately chose to return to the area to give my children a similar upbringing. I feel as though my experience living and working in other states and now returning to Pennsylvania gives me a unique perspective and a broad network of resources.

I have no other motivation to take on this task other than to give our children the best opportunities to succeed. I am ready and willing to have those difficult conversations without theatrics and dramatic flair.

This district has potential to be the best. I feel my experience, training, and everyman personality makes me the ideal candidate for people that also hold that desire and belief. A vote for me is a vote for a man of the people who understands the challenges working families face in their daily lives and believes the district should work for and with families, not against.

I am humbly requesting your support and if elected will devote my energies and expertise to helping this district in their multi-faceted recovery efforts.

Thank you!

Meet the Candidates – Stephanie Geyer

I’m one of the candidates running for Southmoreland School board this year.

I’m a 35 year old mom of 2 girls, a 5th grader and a 7th grader and run an Etsy shop making embroidered birthday shirts for kids and am also working as a substitute teacher at Mt Pleasant Jr/Sr High. My husband (who is a Lieutenant at a state prison) and I both graduated from Southmoreland in 2003. I have a Bachelors degree in Math with a minor in Secondary Education from St. Vincent. I spend most of my free time driving my 11yr old to gymnastics, and planning our church’s Vacation Bible School. We also help with the 1st-6th graders every Wednesday in our church.

I decided to run for school board because I think it’s important for people to step up and serve, especially when it comes to serving children. Our children are our futures and deserve the best education they can receive. We sold our first home in Hempfield before our oldest started Kindergarten and moved back to Southmoreland because we believed in the education we received, and believed it would best suit our own children. Throughout the pandemic, I felt our school district has lacked strong leadership in making the best decisions for our students. It always seemed like the district was putting out fires instead of preventing them, and I feel decisions could have and should have been made well in advance of the beginning of the school year to not only set our students up for success, but also prepare our teachers for their new role as virtual teachers.

I believe that our district can still be a successful district, and should be able to instill confidence in every parent that their child will be provided the best opportunity for education available in the area. It breaks my Scottie heart when I hear how many people have, and/or are planning to place their children in cyber or private brick and mortar schools because they have lost trust in a district they once loved and believed in. I hope to move toward restoring that trust by holding our administration accountable for their actions, their decisions, or their lack of decisions or plans. Our children deserve better, and until there are solid plans in place (that will actually be followed through with instead of constantly changing and mistruths being fed to parents to keep them in the district) then I will continue to push our administration toward those goals.

Hopefully that covers it.

Thanks for your time.

April Jackholes Bring May Flowers

It’s a strange world we live in.

On a daily basis, there is never any shortage of interesting news. The problem is, most of the interesting news is not on your national network broadcasts. I mean, really, why report any truth at all when you can fabricate a perfectly good lie to help people enjoy their evening dinner?

For your consideration……….

Keep watching mainstream news folks……this pretty much sums up what mainstream media in this country have become. NBC’s Lester Holt……after receiving the Edward R. Murrow Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism said that fairness in journalism is ‘overrated’.

“I think it’s become clearer that fairness is overrated,” Holt said. “The idea that we should always give two sides equal weight and merit does not reflect the world we find ourselves in. That the sun sets in the west is a fact. Any contrary view does not deserve our time or attention. Decisions to not give unsupported arguments equal time are not a dereliction of journalistic responsibility or some kind of agenda, in fact, it’s just the opposite.”

The communists don’t even try to hide anymore.

It’s amazing to see how the government is kicking the Covid can down the road a year later. Visit Facebook or any other social media platform and you will find no shortage of friends and family willing to let the government strip away more of their rights…..all for a virus that STILL has a 99.8 survival rate.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard rumors of the government requiring a ‘vaccine passport’. Apparently this passport will prove that you have received the ‘vaccine’ and that you are a ‘safe’ citizen……. free to attend sporting events, concerts, movies, etc. Without the passport, your freedoms as a human being will be obviously curtailed if not eliminated altogether.

I fully expected this sort of totalitarian behavior from the new administration, but I did have a question about what the plans were to deal with the people that won’t take the vaccine.

I think I got my answer.

Harry Litman, a former Department of Justice official, tweeted on Sunday, “Vaccine passports are a good idea. Among other things, it [sic] will single out the still large contingent of people who refuse vaccines, who will be foreclosed from doing a lot of things their peers can do. That should help break the resistance down.”

I don’t recall this country ever discussing how to silence dissent……at least not on this scale.

Should be fun…….

In keeping with the whole vaccine theme, the CDC has released the results of their VAERS database (Vaccine Adverse Effect Reporting System) that tracks deaths resulting from adverse reactions to vaccines. Keep in mind this tracks ALL vaccines….not just the gene therapy shot that everyone is clamoring to get.

Apparently, there is a 6000% increase in deaths at the end of the first quarter of 2021 when compared to the first quarter of last year.

As of March 19, 2021, 1754 people have died of adverse reactions to a vaccine.  Is the 6000% increase directly related to the covid inoculation?

I have no idea, but I always like to have as much information as possible before I let mad scientists shoot some type chemical into my arm.

You can read the full report HERE.

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Trump and a Fox News contributor recently posted a video of herself interviewing President Trump on a range of issues.

The response she received from the Facebook overlords is chilling……..

“In line with the block we placed on Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, further content posted in the voice of Donald Trump will be removed and result in additional limitations on the account,” an email from “Katelyn” read.

If you don’t own a business that you are trying to promote, why would you use this turd of a platform to do anything?  I guess people just don’t care that much……which is kinda how we got the country into the position we’re in today.

Well, one thing the imaginary ‘pandemic’ has done for me is weened me off of professional sports……for the most part anyway. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see an NBA or MLB game, and professional football is all but dead for me. Once you start selling out and promoting politics or causes during sporting events, I’m out. I used to watch sports for entertainment……now it’s almost as bad as watching CBS report the news.

Now….it looks as though it’s starting to take hold in professional hockey. The NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes released this little tidbit…….

As a fan, I have no use for this……there is a time and place for everything…….

I have discovered I seem to be a ‘guilt by association’ kind of guy. I cannot bring myself to watch any of the network news outlets, or Fox and Newsmax, because in my opinion, they are just incredible biased liars that rank right up there with some of the great propaganda machines from history. (Pravda and TASS come to mind….. not familiar? Look it up.)

In turn, I find that watch less and less of local affiliate news just because of their parent organizations. KDKA, WTAE, WPXI…….never turn ’em on much anymore. Yep…..guilt by association. Well, that and their weather men aren’t very good and some of their reporters are really weird. I WILL turn on Fox every now and then to watch old reruns of Two and a Half Men.

Teacher leave them kids alone………

Sleepy Joe is Driving the Weenie Boat

So it’s been a busy week for our placeholder president Joe Biden. He has pretty much proven that contrary to his campaign platform, he is hardly a moderate. In three short days, Joe was pretty busy.

Joe BidenSo far, he has…….

Lost about 80,000 jobs……

Banished the National Guard to a parking garage in Washington DC.

Sent troops into Syria.

Pretty much ended U.S. energy independence.

All but admitted he really doesn’t have a plan for Covid-19.

Eliminated women sports.

Broke his own mask mandate hours after he signed it.

Is preparing to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

For all intents and purposes, ended deportations.

Oh, I forgot that we’ll be counting illegal aliens in the U.S. census.

I can’t hardly wait to see what he does next week.

Trump looks better already.

I guess we’ll have to stay political with some of these random tidbits……

I find it amusing that when the Antifa and BLM thugs were destroying American cities (…and still are) , the Democrats lost their minds when Trump suggested sending in the military to control the situation. Yet, when it came time to inaugurate Chinese Joe, they mobilized a military force small enough to conquer many small countries just so they would feel safe from crazed Trump supporters.

Speaking of the crazed Trump supporters, and correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the news media tell everyone they had ‘credible’ information that there was going to be violent protests at the capitols in all 50 states on inauguration day? I hope nobody was hurt.

White House press briefings should be fun.

For the first few days….and more often than not, press secretary Jen Psaki was responding to questions by simply stating, “I don’t have anything on that right now”. I expect she’s not gonna have much of anything either as time marches on.

If you drive a car, I will refresh your memories from a few short years ago……there was talk of instituting a tax on every mile that you drive your car. Well, our new Transportation Pete Buttigieg is trying to resurrect the idea so he can fund our ‘transportation’ infrastructure. Hey Pete, come to Pennsylvania….the only time our roads are fixed is when in snows enough to fill up the potholes.

You can’t make it up……

Uganda had an election last week and the government ordered all internet access points in the country to ban access to social media sites Twitter and Facebook.

President Yoweri Museveni, 76, apologized for the inconvenience caused by the ban, but said Uganda had no choice after Facebook removed several accounts tied to his reelection campaign.

Twitter was apparently upset.

“Ahead of the Ugandan election, we’re hearing reports that Internet service providers are being ordered to block social media and messaging apps. We strongly condemn internet shutdowns – they are hugely harmful, violate basic human rights and the principles of the #OpenInternet”

I agree……who would block or hinder social media users……or worse, try to sway an election by denying service to people looking for information?

BTW…… Museveni won the election in a landslide.

Wear your mask……..

I am the eye in the sky, looking at you, I can read your mind

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas “Tree-Cycling”

Christmas Tree RecyclingWestmoreland Cleanways and Recycling reminds everyone to recycle their real Christmas trees. After the festivities are finished, give a gift to Mother Nature by taking your tree to one of the many drop-off sites located throughout Westmoreland County.

Tree-cycling is truly giving a gift back to the community.  Proper disposal of a real tree is beneficial to the environment.  In most cases, real trees thrown away with the garbage end up taking up space in a landfill.  However, recycling your Christmas tree returns it to nature.  The trees will be chipped into mulch and used to beautify community parks, eventually decomposing into valuable humus to nourish and renew the soil.

There is no cost to recycle your Christmas tree;  however, two organizations that host tree recycling sites; Boy Scout Troup 239 at Schramm’s Farm & Orchards in Penn Township and Murrysville-Export Rotary, collect donations to fund their own projects.

All locations require that trees are completely bare of ALL decorations and lights when dropped off.  This includes any tree bags or wrappings used to transport the tree to the drop-off site.

Sponsors of this year’s Christmas tree recycling program include: Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, James A. Rutter Company in Murrysville, Penn Township, and the Borough of Youngwood.

Ellen Keefe, Executive Director of Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, commented:  “Although many holiday traditions were canceled this year and family celebrations will be smaller, tree cycling around the County remains a constant.   Let your tree go full circle by giving it back to the earth.”
